RocHobby Kübelwagen Type82 1:12 - Scaler RTR 2.4GHz

Item number: DPROC11241RTR

The Type 82 Kübelwagen from FMS/RocHobby is a scale model in 1:12 scale. This model sets completely new standards in terms of functionality and scale details. Exactly that is why we decided to write a very extensive description of this model ;)

First of all: The Type 82 Kübelwagen comes out of the box with built-in electronics, completely ready to drive and including remote control and battery.

The original
In the 1930s Germany built the KdF motor city in Wolfsburg and registered the Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung der Deutschen Volkswagens mbH, from which
later developed into the world-famous headquarters of VW. The national KdF car was produced there.
The KdF-Wagen, which was called the Volksauto (people's car), was not sold to the people; instead
all vehicles were confiscated and converted into military vehicles, of which the Kübelwagen is the most famous.
The Kübelwagen is a light military off-road vehicle with an open top. It was developed in January 1938 and was characterised by a low body and low weight, which could easily be produced in large numbers and was inexpensive.

The model
The FMS Kübelwagen in 1:12 scale takes you back to the war-torn era with its spectacular design.

The engine
The air-cooled boxer engine is the heart of the real car. An engine that was used in several later generations of classic cars and lasted 65 years in the Beetle.
The cylinders of the horizontally arranged engine are distributed on both sides. The engine
crankshaft flywheel is connected by a belt, which also drives the generator and cooling fan. The semi-circular fan shroud is a key feature, distributing the airflow to the cylinders on both sides.

Although the model is powered by a brushed motor, all of this is nevertheless recreated! I.e. you can even watch the spinning blades when the engine is running.

The gearbox
The original Kübelwagen had 4 forward gears. On the model, FMS designed a 2-speed gearbox to simulate the speed of the 1st and 3rd gears of the prototype. The power passes from the upper part of the rear differential and then returns to the rear axle. You can easily switch between 4WD and RWD mode by remote control. This switching function is perfectly transferred to the model and makes for more driving fun off-road.

The chassis
The portal axle, which is popular on the crawler market today, was already mass produced 82 years ago, here the reduction ratio was 15:21. The chassis of the Kübelwagen had a minimum ground clearance of 310 mm which puts all modern off-road vehicles on today's market in the shade. On the real car, the front and rear wheel speeds are balanced by increasing the gear ratio of the front axle differential, whereas on the model we have set the reduction ratio to 1:1 for common front and rear differentials.

The solid, load-bearing stamped centre bar chassis and body have high torsional rigidity. The central drive shaft and electrical wiring are hidden in the ridge tube.
The front and rear wheels have torsion-spring independent suspension, which has long travel and takes up little space. We use torsion springs instead of torsion bars to make the front and rear suspension easy to dismantle.

The tyres
The tyres are the most common 5.25×16. Just like on the real car, the wheels have to be fixed with 5 screws. The spare wheel is attached to the front for removal and fitting.

The body
The body, on which the FMS research and development team spent most of their time, is a real dream for any scale fan. Every detail has been modelled on the original.
The windscreen can be folded down and attached to the front bracket.
The angle of the rear view mirror can also be adjusted like on a real car. The four doors that can be opened are worth mentioning, but it is even more interesting that the doors can be opened and locked by turning the door handle.

The interior
The comfortable seats have soft foam cushions that are even a little luxurious by 1939 standards ;) The dashboard shows the speed and the time of gear changes with the current mileage 203 km - which is roughly the distance driven from the Wolfsburg factory to Berlin. No doubt about it, we are selling a new car.

As usual with FMS, the steering wheel and the steering are connected, which means that the steering wheel turns along with the steering. With optionally available 1/12 figures, the scale factor can be increased even further.

The armrest in front of the rear seats has four clips in the middle that fit into holes in the floor to hold
four 98K rifles, which were manufactured by the Mauser Arsenal in Oberndorf and
had to be purchased at the 1939 rate for 70 Reichsmarks each, could be stowed. The rear seat backs could be folded down to facilitate access to supplies from the boot.

The electronics
FMS went to great lengths to optimise the layout of the electronics so that the battery or receiver would not take up space in the boot. The boot height of the Type82 has been designed to accommodate a 20-litre oil canister (water).
Or to be able to stow weapons, ammunition and food supplies. However, supplies, canisters or weapons such as the 98K must be purchased separately.

The remote control
A 4-channel digital proportional remote control system is used for the electronic system. In addition to channels 1 and 2 for steering and throttle, the third channel controls the gear shift and the 4th channel switches between 4WD and RWD.

The lighting system
The model has a ready integrated lighting control system that allows you to switch on the headlights for normal night driving. Linked turn signals and brake lights are located at the rear of the vehicle. The camouflage headlights can only be switched on during night driving.

The packaging
Yes, even the packaging is worth mentioning on this model. The packaging is made of environmentally friendly foam that simulates a German ammunition box from World War II. The reusable box can withstand long journeys is easy to store and easy to carry.

The fun
We hope you will have as much fun with the Kübelwagen Type 82 as the FMS team had bringing this classic piece of wartime history to life.
