The resumption of flight training was approved from late April 1951, and the Scheibe Spatz A was one of the first glider designs that could be used by flying groups for this purpose. It was the single-seat development of the Mü 13 E and Bergfalke. Both the Spatz A and Spatz B had a wingspan of 13.2 m. 35 examples were built. A further development was the L-Spatz 55, which was also a shoulder-wing design. This machine had a wingspan of 15 m and a glide ratio of 1:29, which was a good performance at the time. More than 450 examples in all were manufactured up to 1962. This made the Spatz the most successful glider produced by Scheibe- Flugzeugbau GmbH.

The robbe L-Spatz 55 is a semi-scale replica to a scale of 1:4 with a wingspan of 375 cm. It structure is conventional, and based on accurately laser-cut components.

The L-Spatz 55 is supplied as a finished model and is covered in antique colour Oratex® fabric. A particularly attractive technical feature is the double-acting airbrakes which open on both the upper and lower surfaces of the wing, as on the full-size machine An aero- tow release is fitted in the fuselage nose. The painted colour finish is already applied to the fabric covering. The detailed cockpit is fitted out with instruments and a pilot seat. All RC components are readily accessible. The canopy is secured with a magnetic latch, and a locking access panel is also fitted to the upper fuselage. The rudder is operated by a pull-cable linkage, whereas all other control surfaces are pushrod-operated.

The robbe L- Spatz 55 also looks great in the air. The glider circles smoothly and elegantly, just like the original sailplane. Whether it is at a slope or by aero-tow, the L-Spatz 55 is easy to get up to altitude. It is easily capable of simple aerobatics such as loops, rolls and stall-turns. Low, slow passes and landing approaches at walking speed simply look great.

The robbe L-Spatz 55 is a genuine eye-catcher, and a splendid model for the connoisseur.
