Scheibe L-Spatz 55 - THE vintage semi-scale glider from robbe, with a wingspan of 2.5 m.

The robbe L-Spatz 55 is a scale model of the vintage classic sailplane. The model is of conventional built-up all-wood construction, covered in iron-on fabric. Radio control system and electronics not included.

The full-size
The Scheibe L-Spatz 55 was a development of the Spatz A and Spatz B. It took the form of a shoulder- wing glider with a wingspan of 15 m and a glide angle of 1 : 29, which was good by the standards of the time. The glider first flew in 1954. By the end of 1962 the sailplane manufacturer Scheibe-Flugzeugbau GmbH - based at Dachau, near Munich - had produced more than 450 units of the L-Spatz 55, making it the most successful "Spatz" of all.

The model
The robbe L-Spatz 55 is a semi-scale model to 1 : 6 scale, with a wingspan of 2.5 m. Its structure is conventional, and based on accurately laser-cut components. The L-Spatz 55 is supplied as a finished model, and is covered in antique colour iron-on fabric. The special surface texture of this material emphasises the model's vintage look. An aero-tow release is fitted in the fuselage nose. All the RC components are housed in the model's fuselage, where they are easily accessible. The canopy, which is retained by magnets, and the latched top fuselage hatch provide ease of installation and good access to all the airborne components. Not just on the ground: the robbe L-Spatz 55 also looks impressively realistic in the air. It's a superb experience to fly the model with the sun shining through the wings from above, showing off the fully built-up structure. Just like the original sailplane, the robbe L-Spatz 55 circles smoothly and elegantly, either at the slope or after an aero-tow.

The glider's realistic flying characteristics allow simple aerobatics such as rolls, loops and stall-turns. Low, slow passes and landing approaches at walking speed are simply a delight to pilot and onlooker alike.

The robbe L-Spatz 55 is a simply beautiful model, and a real eye- catcher!
